History:
Holman Community Development Corporation was established in 2003 by Dr. Rev. Henry L. Masters Sr. and the pastoral staff of Holman United Methodist Church. During a prayer breakfast in 2003, a community youth was assisting the staff in their preparations for the event. At the conclusion of the prayer breakfast an offering was collected. The youth that had assisted the staff had later stolen the money collected at the breakfast and fled the premises. The youth had been seeking help and had been mentored by one of the associate pastors. The unfortunate incident highlighted the desperation that many youth and adults face in these turbulent economic times. The economic downturn of the 2000’s has placed a strain on federal, state and city funds that had previously provided employment training to youth and young adults. So in the summer of 2003, Holman Community Development Corp. was created and our Jobs For Kids Youth Employment program was established as its first program. In its first years, the Jobs For Kids program was funded by the congregation of Holman United Methodist Church. The Congregation remains a significant financial supporting umbrella of the Jobs For Kids program.
